Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare for my first session? Please arrive 15 minutes early to get settled and allow time for orientation.

What do I wear? You should wear clean workout clothes that cover you appropriately, yet allow you to move freely and allow your teacher to see your alignment. For your feet, you can can wear socks or no socks. Please no pants with zippers as it will tear up our equipment.

What to expect. First, you'll get instruction that's geared specifically to your needs.  Beyond that, you'll learn to move in a new way. You might discover things you hadn’t noticed about the way your body moves. We'll teach you the essential principles of Pilates, and help you discover how Pilates will help you reach your fitness goals. And of course, expect to get a workout.

How long are the sessions? Each session is 55 minutes.  You’ll be led through a exercises on the Mat or Reformer followed by exercises on different apparatus in the studio specific to your body’s needs.

What if I have an injury? As long a doctor has cleared you to exercise, don’t worry. Our certified instructors are trained to modify exercises for injuries, and to help you progress further when you are ready.

Pilates is not physical therapy, but it is corrective exercise, and as such has many benefits including injury prevention and improved athletic skill. Orthopedic problems need the attention of a medical specialist and anyone under a physician’s care should not engage in Pilates without consent from his/her physician.

How often should I do Pilates? In the beginning we recommend three times a week to learn, grow and progress. Once you have a good foundation we can work with you to create a schedule you can commit too. For example: one or two privates a week and two group classes. If you enjoy working out with a friend, semi-privates (workout for 2) is another great way to keep going with your Pilate practice.
