Classical Pilates Education

UPPilates Burlingame supports the continued study and preservation of the Classical Pilates method by providing opportunities for mentorship, observation, workshops, and teacher education. Our goal is to help teachers and serious students deepen their understanding of the work while maintaining the integrity of the original system.

Mentorship
We provide mentorship for new and developing instructors who want to continue learning and refining the Classical Pilates method in a supportive, professional environment. Teachers deepen their understanding of the work while building confidence in their teaching.

Workshops
Throughout the year, we host workshops with respected teachers and teacher trainers, offering opportunities for continuing education and deeper study of the Classical Pilates method.

Our primary teachers include Dorothee Vandewalle, Master Trainer of the M.A.T. (Metropolitan Pilates) Teacher Training Program, and Chris Robinson, a highly respected Classical Pilates teacher, direct protégé of Romana Kryzanowska.

Observation Hours
A valuable way to learn how to teach Pilates is through observation - and great for teachers in training. For those looking to complete observation hours or deepen their understanding of the method, please contact us for rates and to schedule your time.

Pilates Intensives
A Pilates Intensive Series is a focused, small-group training experience designed to deepen your understanding and practice of the Classical Pilates method. Intensives follow a progressive format, allowing you to build on each session and absorb the work over time.

Each session explores the Pilates system in greater detail—covering all apparatus, exercise order, transitions, and the purpose behind the method. You’ll develop a clearer understanding of how the exercises connect, how to move with precision and control, and how to apply the work to your own body.

Ideal for aspiring instructors, newer teachers, and dedicated clients, this series offers an immersive learning environment where questions are encouraged, technique is refined, and confidence grows. It’s an opportunity to study the method and experience Pilates on a deeper level than a typical class.

Led by Stella Sandoval, owner of UPPilates Burlingame, a comprehensively trained Classical Pilates instructor who studied under highly respected teachers, mentors instructors, and continues her education through ongoing mentorship, workshops, and seminars.

Certification Support
UPPilates Burlingame supports individuals interested in pursuing a full comprehensive Classical Pilates certification. Preparing your body and developing a deeper understanding of the method before entering a program is an essential step toward success.

Most Classical Pilates certification programs require—and we highly recommend—at least one year of consistent Pilates training prior to applying. This preparation builds a strong foundation, making the learning process more effective and increasing the likelihood of successfully completing the program.

Our recommended certification program is through Metropolitan Pilates in Seattle, led by Dorothee Vandewalle. Their program is known for its intimate setting, high-quality instruction, and comprehensive approach to Classical Pilates teacher training.
